What is Union Information Service Center?
Details

UISC stands for Union Information Service Center. Union-based information service center, which aims to provide information services at the doorsteps of grassroots people. The Union Information and Service Center was started in 2006 under the name of Community Information Center (CEC). The Access to Information Program (A2I) CEC of the Prime Minister's Office of Bangladesh started as a pilot in Madhainagar Union Parishad of Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj and Mushidhat Union Parishad of Setabganj Upazila of Dinajpur District. In the light of the experience in this pilot project, in 2008 the Local Government Department of Bangladesh with the help of A2I program came out of CEC in 30 Union Parishads and established Union Information and Service Centers. Following this, in 2009 again the local government department with the help of A2I set up union information and service centers in 100 union parishads. At present (2012) these local unions are coordinating information and service centers under the Local Government Department. In 2010, the local government department decided to set up 1,000 more centers by June of that year. According to the decision, already (2012) 1000 Union Parishads and for this, 2000 entrepreneurs have been selected from these Union Parishads. Keeping in mind the equality of men and women, a local young man and a young woman were selected in each union council among the entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs invest a certain amount of money and enter into an agreement with the union council. The Chairman of the Union Parishad, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer are directly involved in this entrepreneur selection process and the local Deputy Commissioner is informed. In May 2010, the A2I program of the Prime Minister's Office organized a training of trainers with the aim of forming a team of 100 master trainers.
