Union Digital Center (UDC), Union-based digital center of Bangladesh, whose objective is to ensure information services at the doorstep of people at the grassroots level. [1][2] Union Information and Service Center started in 2007 as 'Community Information Center' (CEC). Under the Access to Information Program (A2I) of the Prime Minister's Office of Bangladesh, CEC activities were started on a pilot basis in Madhainagar Union Parishad of Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj and Mushidhat Union Parishad of Setabganj Upazila of Dinajpur District. In light of the experience in this pilot project, in 2008, the Local Government Department of Bangladesh established Union Information and Service Centers in 30 Union Parishads with the help of A2I program. In continuation of this, again in 2009, the local government department established union information and service centers in 100 union parishads with the help of A2I. At present (2012) the National Local Government Organization under the Local Government Department is coordinating these Union Information and Service Centers. It was later named Union Digital Center. 2014 In 2010, the Local Government Department decided to set up 1,000 more centers by June of that year. According to the decision already (2012) 1000 Union Parishads and for this 2000 entrepreneurs are selected from these Union Parishads. Keeping in mind the equality of men and women, one local youth, one young woman is selected in each Union Parishad among the entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs join the union by investing a certain amount of money and entering into an agreement with the union council. Union Parishad Chairman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer are directly involved in this entrepreneur selection process and the local Deputy Commissioner is informed.

In May 2010, the A2I program of the Prime Minister's Office organized a train-the-trainer program to build a team of 100 experienced trainers. Entrepreneurs of various telecenters under Bangladesh Computer Council and Bangladesh Telecenter Network participated in this trainer training. Entrepreneurship training programs will be conducted at the district level under their leadership.

At present there are 4 thousand 501 union information and service centers across the country. [3]
